Hindsight

History Quiz

This history quiz runs 20 questions in one sweep through the whole timeline. Every answer behind it was written twice by independent authors and matched before a single question was generated.

What the 20 questions cover

This is the broad one: a single sweep through the whole timeline rather than a stop in any one era. Ancient civilizations, the medieval centuries, the age of machines, the world wars, and the decades inside living memory all get their turn. Twenty questions is enough to touch every major stretch of the record without settling into any single period for long — if one question finds a gap in your knowledge, the next has usually moved to different ground entirely.

Where every answer comes from

Hindsight builds its quizzes from a dataset that was written twice. Two authors, working independently, each produced the full record: 149 catalog facts plus a complete list of all 47 US presidencies. The two versions were then compared key by key. All 149 facts verified; all 47 presidency records agreed on every field. Anywhere the authors could not agree, no question was written — that rule cost some material, but it means nothing on this page rests on one person’s memory.

The questions also stay on settled ground. Nothing in the set moves with the news; if the record could still change, it stayed out of the quiz.

How the quiz plays

Everything runs in the page — no signup, nothing to download. Each question offers four options. Pick one and you learn immediately whether you were right, with the correct answer shown either way. At the end you get a full review of all 20 questions, so you can see exactly where a run went wrong.

  • 20 questions, four options each
  • Instant right or wrong, with the correct answer always shown
  • Full review at the end; best score saved in your browser
