1980s Trivia

Seven questions of 1980s trivia: Chernobyl, Challenger, MTV, Live Aid, and the Wall coming down. The quiz plays in the page and keeps your best score in your browser.

Seven questions from one decade

The 1980s produced a run of moments that still get referenced without explanation: Chernobyl, the Challenger disaster, the launch of MTV, Live Aid, and the Wall coming down. This set of 7 questions works through that list. It is recent history — close enough that many players watched some of it happen, far enough back that the exact details have started to slip. The questions ask for those details: the places, the years, the order of events.

The dataset behind the questions

Every answer traces back to a record written twice. Two independent authors each compiled the same dataset — 149 catalog facts and a complete list of all 47 US presidencies — and the two versions were compared key by key before a single question was generated. The tally: 149 of 149 facts verified, 47 of 47 presidency records matching on every field. Where the two authors disagreed, the rule is blunt — no question. The 1980s entries went through the same comparison as everything else on the site.
